Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick has appointed his former chief of staff William ‘Mo' Cowan to serve as the interim Senator from Massachusetts following John Kerry's confirmation as Secretary of State.
He was introduced on Wednesday morning in the Governor's Council in the State House. Kerry formally resigned as Senator earlier this week.
Cowan also served as legal counsel to Patrick before being promoted to Chief of Staff in 2010. He resigned the $144,000 a year gig last November.
Vicky Kennedy and former Congressman Barney Frank were also rumored to have been on the consideration list for the position.
In June Massachusetts will hold a special election to replace Kerry officially in the Senate.
