WARWICK, R.I. - Rhode Island's First Tech Challenge yielded a winner Saturday in a spirited competition between 30 high school robotics teams from the region.
The "Rhody Girls" of Providence Career and technical Academy beat out 24 other teams in a robotics competition at New England Tech, with their robot "Pretty-Bot" taking home the top prize.
The team entered the competition in honor of their high school nurse, Barbara Rios, a survivor of breast cancer. The team presented her with a first place medal.
The event, which ran from 9:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday, involved a spirited competition to see who could build the best robot.
The competition is designed to stoke students' abilities to develop problem solving and reasoning skills.
