The eight pound, five year old affenpinscher Banana Joe could hardly hold back his excitement Monday afternoon when he made an appearance in Providence. He is fresh off his Best in Show win at the Westminster Dog Show just last week.
Co-owner Zolia Truesdale is from Attleboro and couldn't be more proud of her winner, "It was an out of body experience to be honest with you...all I remember is when the judge went to the back of the line to pick his best in show and I knew that at the back of the line was this little toy dog."
Banana Joe had competed twice before at the famous dog show but it turns out third times the charm. Since then it's been a whirlwind of fame. Truesdale thinks the most exciting stop so far was opening the New York Stock Exchange with Banana Joe ringing the bell.
Handler Ernesto Lara said the win was a dream come true, "It's something that we sort of dream about and you never really think it's going to happen to you. It's hard to describe, it's hard to believe it actually happened."
Next up for Banana Joe, retirement. He'll be heading to the Netherlands for rest and relaxation.
