An update from National Grid about that scam targeting utility customers. Because of and ABC 6 Investigation, National Grid is now issuing a warning to all customers.
Scammers have been calling National Grid customers
nationwide, including here in Rhode Island, saying that they owe immediate payment to the power
company, or else their services will be shut–off.
National Grid says, it doesn't work that way.
"We would never ask for direct payment over the phone, if we
contact a customer by phone, it may be to let them know they're late in their
payments and that they need to make payments through normal channels," said David Graves of National Grid.
At least 2 Rhode Island National Grid Customers have been
targeted by the scam so far, one of them lost 2-hundred dollars. National Grid urges anyone with questions to call them, before giving out any personal information, over the phone.
