A fire in a two-family home on Melville Street in Fall River was caused by arson say fire officials.
Lt. William Powers of the Fall River Fire Department said that while initially he heard reports that the fire was caused by a pot roast left in the oven, the fire "actually had nothing to do with a pot roast."
The fire was started outside in the front of the house says Williams. Investigators are still looking for a possible suspect and motive.
Two people live in the second floor apartment of the home, the first floor is vacant. The residents were not home when the fire broke out but they had three cats and a dog in the building. The three cats were killed in the fire by firefighters rescued the German Sheppard and the animal is currently being treated at a Swansea animal hospital. "we believe the dog is in good condition," said Powers.
The fire caused substantial structural damage and as a results it is likely the building will have to be torn down.
