Providence was not the "purr-fect" place for an international fancier cat group that held a weekend convention at the Rhode Island Convention Center.
The group, the International Cat Association, got in a dispute when police at the event asked to see the cats' health and rabies certificates.
For some owners claws came out at the request; some of the cat lovers refused to comply and others threatened to call their lawyers. The State veterinarian Scott Marshall said officers were just trying to verify that the pet owners who were showcasing their cats at the event were in compliance with the law.
The president of the International Cat Association, Vickie Fisher, said that her group will consider other cities for its annual convention next year as a result of the incident.
