As a winter storm barrels toward Rhode Island, people are preparing for the worst and hoping spring is just around the corner.

For Maria Bermudez, the concern is about the tree behind her house in East Providence. Branches fell during the blizzard last month, and she is worried the wind from this storm could snap it entirely.

"I'm just knocking on wood every time a storm comes," Bermudez said. "I can snap the branches with my hands, they are that weak."

At the Benny's in Providence, many found themselves stocking up again, buying shovels to replace ones that broke during the blizzard.

In North Providence, Sean Feeley is hoping city officials learned their lesson from the last storm. He says the snow removal was so slow, he couldn't open his business, the Ruff Stone Tavern, for days.

Hundreds of people showed up to a meeting to sound off on the storm response following the blizzard.

"Hopefully someone was listening," Feeley said. "But we will see. The proof is in the pudding.

North Providence, like other places in Rhode Island, spent Wednesday trying to get ahead of the storm, but at this point, they say all they can do is salt the roads.
