PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Police are searching for a man suspected of robbing a Providence laundromat, armed with a large kitchen knife.

Police say around 2:45 a.m. Saturday morning, a short, heavyset man dressed in all black walked into the Laundromax at 930 Atwells Ave, brandished a large knife and ordered everyone to the ground.

According to police, it is unclear if there were customers inside at the time. The laundromat lists its closing time as 1 a.m.

The robber was somehow able to open two safes located in the back room and pocketed $1200, according to police.

The robber then fled the laundromat with the cash. Fortunately, no one was injured during the robbery.

Police are describing the man as being about 5'3'', heavyset, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black sweat pants, and black sneakers.

Providence Police are asking anyone with information about this robbery to call Providence Police at 401-272-3121.
