A Johnston man has been found guilty of murdering his girlfriend, dismembering her body with a chainsaw and attempting to burn the remains.
After several hours of deliberations a jury has found 52-year-old Donald Greenslit guilty of murdering his girlfriend and mother of his two children, Stacie Dorego.
The defense argued that Dorego, 39, was using drugs and constantly had different men entering and exiting the home. Attorneys said that there was little forensic evidence to prove that Greenslit had actually committed the crime.
The Prosecution said that Greenslit was caught red handed by firefighters who were called to the scene as heavy smoke began to fill the home. Firefighters found Greenslit by the fireplace where Dorego's remains were burning.
Greenslit's two young children, who were in an upstairs bedroom, were removed from the home by firefighters during the incident.
At the time of the murder Dorego had a no contact order against Greenslit. In addition to the murder charge, he was found guilty of violating the no contact order, obstructing police officers and failure to report a death.
