A man was arraigned in the Rhode Island Hospital on Friday after a police chase through Johnston ended in a car crash.

41-year-old Michael chamberlain was thrown partially through his car windshield after he took off when police attempted to arrest him on a warrant.

Police arrived at the man's home to serve him with a court bench warrant on a violation stemming from a second degree child abuse charge.

When Chamberlain saw the police he got into his vehicle and sped off. He ran through a stop sign and police clocked him at speeds between 70 and 80 mph in a 25 mph zone. Police lost sight of the vehicle on Bishop Hill Road but second later found that it had collided with a tree.

As police approached the vehicle Chamberlain attempted to escape through the front passenger window. He was ordered at gunpoint to take his hands out of the windows and then he was cuffed.

Chamberlain told officers he was sorry for fleeing the scene and repeatedly stated, "I pray the Lord takes me."

Chamberlain was extradited from the vehicle by the "jaws of life" and transported to Rhode Island Hospital to be treated for injuries.

Chamberlain is also wanted on a full extradition warrant from Texas for probation violation on a felony stalking/intimidation charge
