General Treasurer Gina Raimondo was a bit more forthcoming than she has been in the past with her intentions to possibly run for Governor in 2014.
After Governor Lincoln Chafee said he expects Raimondo to be his challenger in the 2014 Governor's race, Raimondo admitted that yes she might be.
"Yes, I'm considering a run for governor," Raimondo told reporters outside the Bond Buyers 2nd Annual Symposium on Distressed Municipalities where she was delivering the keynote address. "But I'm focusing on doing my job as General Treasurer right now," she added. Chafee, her potential rival, was also delivering a speech at the same event.
Last week Stephanie Schriock president of EMILY's list told Hotline on Call that Raimondo was "going to jump in and run for Governor." EMILY's list is a political action committee that aims to get progressive female candidates elected.
Providence Mayor Angel Taveras has also been named as a possible 2014 Gubernatorial candidate on the Democratic side. Taveras has not confirmed that he is going to run but he has not denied the rumors either.
Former State Auditor General Ernie Almonte has already declared his intentions to run for Governor in 2014.
