Providence Animal Control has a pit bull in custody after if broke lose from its home and bit 3 children at Roger Williams Middle School on Monday morning.
The incident took place around 7:30 a.m. when the dog wandered onto the school yard dragging a broken chain attached to a collar on its neck.
The dog then bit one student who was transported to the hospital to be treated for unspecified injuries.
The dog was apprehended by Providence Animal Control. Animal Patrol Officer Dave Holden said the city is trying to get in contact with the owner to determine if the dog was up to date on its rabies vaccinations.
Holden said the dog is being held on a 10-day quarantine and if the owner does not step forward to claim the animal could be put down.
