The Rotary Club of East Greenwich celebrated its 50th Anniversary on Saturday Night March 23, by honor six people in the community for, "Service Above Self."

ABC6 Sports Director Ken Bell, a longtime East Greenwich resident, was one of those honored. Over the years Ken has participated in many charitable activities in Rhode Island, through the Ministries of Christ Church in East Greenwich. Ken has been involved in clothing and food drives for the needy, along with sports and arts programs for kids, just to name a few of his accomplishments.

ABC6 was proud to send a group to the dinner at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Warwick, to show our support for Ken and his fellow recipients.

From left to right in the photo, first row: Meteorologist Chelsea Priest; Anchor/Reporter Liz Tufts; Sports Anchor/Reporter Matt Blanchette, and News Director Bob Rockstroh. Second row: Political Reporter Mark Curtis; Anchor Karen Meyers; Anchor John Deluca; and Sports Director Ken Bell.

We also salute Ken's five fellow "Service Above Self Awards" recipients: Robert Houghtaling, Substance Abuse Director; Tammy Flanagan, East Greenwich Animal Protection; Robert McCann, Make a Difference Foundation; Ana Opishinski, Inner City Day Camp, Washington, DC; and Nancy Rieser, The Sharing Locker.

Our congratulations go out to all six recipients. Each received $1,000 designated to their preferred charity.
