Boston Mayor Menino will not seek re-election after twenty years on the job. Menino is expected to formally announced his decision on Thursday afternoon.

Menino was Boston's longest standing Mayor and was a friend and colleague of Providence's longest standing Mayor Buddy Cianci.

"I was mayor long before he was but he was seated to the office in 1993," notes ABC6 Political Analyst Buddy Cianci. He said when Menino became mayor he established a relationship with him and the two often had "friendly competitions" between the two cities like which city had the best food.

Cianci said he doubts Menino would ever run again but as for him self he notes, "I would never say never." While Cianci says he has no intentions of running for anything, he never rules anything out.

Meanwhile, Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick says Menino will be missed in Boston.

"It's hard to imagine Boston without Tom Menino as mayor. No one loves this City and her people more, or is more excited about her future. Mayor Menino has become a valued partner to me on policy and politics, and a trusted and beloved friend. I thank him for his extraordinary and tireless service to the people of Boston, and look forward to leaning on his wisdom for many more years to come."

Menino is currently serving his fifth term as Mayor of Boston.
