Study ranks R.I. at bottom of freedom list

Rhode Island ranked as one of the "least free" states according to a list compiled by the Mercatus Center at George Mason University.

The list ranked New York at the bottom, followed by California, New Jersey, Hawaii and Rhode Island.

Ranking at the top of the list for the most free states was North Dakota, followed by South Dakota, Tennessee, New Hampshire and Oklahoma.

The study entitled "Freedom in the 50 States" measured personal and economic freedom by comparing tax rates, government spending, debt, regulatory practices,labor laws, education, civil liberties, state laws and more.

The website includes and interactive map that allows you to look at how the nation ranked in certain categories.
