An emergency meeting has been called at the State House to discuss a plan for fire and emergency services in the Central Coventry Fire District after a judge ordered the district dissolved on Friday. The meeting included Senate President Teresa Paiva-Weed, Speaker of the House Gordon Fox, lawmakers in Coventry, and fire officials.

On Friday, Judge Brian Stern ordered the district dissolved as of April 11 after tax payers rejected a tax increase to help the department deal with its fiscal issues. The judge said it was out of his jurisdiction to decide the future of fire services to residents in the Central Coventry area and said that it is a matter to be addressed by the General Assembly, Governor, and Town Council.
