A fire at a commercial screen printing business in New Bedford caused 32 people in a nearby loft building to be evacuated.
The fire broke out at 1:16 a.m. at Just In Advertising at 204 Union Street. Due to poor ventilation in the building firefighter were concerned that a back draft could cause the fire to spread to the Coffin Lofts.
The fire did not spread but instead was contained to the first floor and brought under control in about 30 minutes. Those evacuated were able to returned to their apartments by 3 a.m.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
