Connecticut lawmakers pass gun control law

Posted: Updated:

Gun laws in Connecticut could change as soon as Thursday, when the Governor signs legislation that includes sweeping new restrictions on weapons and large capacity ammunition magazines.

Early Thursday morning, the house and senate both approved the bill in response to last year's deadly school shooting at Sandy Hook.

Governor Malloy is set to sign it at noon Thursday.

Expansion of the state's assault weapon's ban and background checks for all firearms sales -- as well as a ban on the sale or purchase of magazines that hold more than 10 rounds -- would go into effect immediately.
