Pawtucket fire damages 8 buildings, leaves dozens homeless

The streets of Pawtucket were full of smoke and people, Sunday, many of them forced out of their homes.

There was chaos on the corner of Harrison and Slater Streets, people screaming thinking loved ones were trapped in inside a multi–family home completely destroyed by fire.

Father Antonio Silvero got his 14 kids out alive. They were huddled together under blankets on the street.

"We're outside," said his son Madueno Silvero, "We don't have anywhere to go. I got a lot of little brothers and sister. They all need help."

The Silvero family lived in a yellow house that'll now have to be torn down. The roof collapsed. The fire spread to at least eight homes in the neighborhood, including Selinna Morgan's.

"It just was so fast that really everybody was just running around trying to get out of the area," said Morgan, "I might not be able to go back in my house with my kids."

Fire crews said wind was a huge problem, especially since the homes in the neighborhood are so close together. Everyone did make it out okay, but so many people lost everything they own.

"Clothes, ID's, medical cards, baby stuff, everything," said Erica Nobre.

The Red Cross is helping all of those families. Fire crews don't know the cause of the fire just yet, but we've heard several reports a child was playing with a lighter outside.
