The same-sex marriage bill passed the Rhode Island Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday afternoon.
The bill proposed by Senator Donna Nesselbush mirrored the one that passed the Rhode Island House of Representatives in January.
The bill will now move to the Senate floor for a full vote. If it passes it will be sent Governor Lincoln Chafee for approval.
Also heard in the committee was a bill to send the same-sex marriage issue to the ballot.
