Providence marked its third murder on Tuesday night.
Police responded to 41 Harvard Avenue around 8:20 p.m. for a report of an individual with gunshot wounds.
When police arrived on scene they discovered a Brown Toyota Camry crashed into a pole. 19-year-old Demitri Todd was lying 30 feet from the vehicle on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound.
Todd was transported to Rhode Island Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Family told ABC6 that Todd was the cousin of Wesley Smith, 20, who was murdered at the end of March in Providence. Smith was the first homicide victim of the year.
The murders occurred just two streets away from each other. It is unclear at this time if the incidents were related.
Todd was a graduate from Davies Career and Technical High School in Lincoln. Friends describe him as a constant "joker," someone who was "always making people laugh."
People who knew him say he was in the process of applying to CCRI to try to improve his life.
Police say it is too early to say whether the murders are connected. So far there are no arrests in either case.
