A double life sentence plus 30 years is the sentence Superior Court Judge Bennett Gallo handed down to a jealous ex–boyfriend convicted of 1st degree murder.
Tony Gonzalez was given the maximum penalty for the 2012 murder of 23–year–old Carl Cunningham. Gonzalez shot Cunningham 7–times in a jealous rage, but he was not the intended target. Gonzalez was after his ex–girlfriend's new boyfriend, Mathew Chivers, but Cunningham got caught in the middle.
Judge Bennett Gallo said Gonzalez showed no emotion or remorse during the trial or in his pre–sentence report. Calling the crime; "a cold–blooded killing."
The Victim's family says they are satisfied with the sentence and can finally move on with their lives. Cunningham's father, Carl Cunningham Sr., says he will use his sons murder as his push to fight for gun control.
The woman at the center of the jealous rage, and a key witness during the week and a half long trial, Patricia Delomba, was not present at Tuesday's sentencing.
