PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Some students and faculty at Providence College are asking the school to take steps to combat what it calls racial profiling of minority students on campus and a hostile climate.

The group says campus security regularly questions minority students about whether they belong on campus and asks them to produce identification when white students aren't asked to do the same. Students say minorities are followed by security in places like the bookstore and have been called racial epithets by other students.

The new "Coalition Against Racism'' wants the school to implement a policy prohibiting profiling and take other actions. Director of Black Studies Julia Jordan-Zachery says the school hasn't done enough.

The school says it's committed to embracing diversity and preventing discrimination. It's planning "cultural competency'' training for security staff.
