PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island's governor and state lawmakers are planning to observe the anniversary of the state of the Vietnam War with a Statehouse event honoring veterans from the conflict.
Gov. Lincoln Chafee, National Guard Adjutant General Kevin McBride and state Rep. Raymond Gallison are scheduled to speak at Monday's event in the House chambers.
Gallison, who leads the House Veterans' Affairs Committee, says it is important to thank those who served and sacrificed in the Vietnam War. He says that too often service members returning home from the war weren't given the respect and honor they earned.
