A Cranston School Crossing Guard is back at work after a near fatal accident while on the job.

Eunique Williams is back at work after taking months off to recover from a horrific accident on the job.

"I remember everything as if it were yesterday," said Williams.

In August of last year, the Cranston school crossing guard was working at the corner of Park and Wellington Avenues.

"It was about four or five minutes before my shift was over," she said.

Williams had just crossed a group of kids, when a car came barreling down Wellington Avenue and through the busy intersection, crashing into a truck.

"She hit him dead on and he spins around and then the back end of his truck hits me," Williams described.

She tried jumping out of the way, "I jumped off the flower pot like this, but I didn't do it in time enough for him to hit me, so he hit me at my leg right here."

Her quick thinking may have saved her life.

"The EMT told me I was lucky because if not he would have pinned me at my stomach and I would have died probably on impact," said Williams.

Before she was hit, she screamed across the intersection for the kids to stay put.

"If they wouldn't have listened to me then it would have been them instead of me."

Williams was honored by the city with a Challenge Coin and an Award of Valor. Now, she works just a few blocks from where the accident happened. She knows she'll always have the physical scars, but the experience has made her stronger.

"I'll take the scars and the pain and the hurt and everything I had to go through if it means three kids got to go home to their mother," she said.

After Williams was hit a woman stayed by her side and held her hand until paramedics arrived. She's never met that mystery woman and would like to thank her. If that person is you or someone you know, please contact here at ABC 6 at (401) 453-8044
