A man who stabbed his girlfriend to death then dismembered her body and attempted to burn the remains has been sentenced to life in prison.
In March, Donald Greenslit was convicted of the murder of 39-year-old Stacie Dorego.
Greenslit was arrested after firefighters responded to heavy smoke from the couple's Pershing Street home in Johnston. When they arrived firefighters discovered Dorego's remains in the fireplace and the couple's two small children asleep in an upstairs bedroom.
Greenslit will serve a life sentence for domestic murder, and 7-years consecutively for violating a no contact order, obstructing a police officer, and failure to report a death. The judge noted that Greenslit was given the maximum sentence.
