A man accused of stabbing another man to death during Superstorm Sandy in Westerly has been indicted on 1 count of manslaughter.
40-year-old Mandell Tripp was initially charged with second-degree murder after he stabbed 37-year-old Kevin Brown to death on October 29.
Tripp told a court that it was all an accident. According to Tripp, Brown had broken into his girlfriend's home on Marriott Street. Tripp said he was holding a pocket knife when Brown swung at him and he swung back. When Tripp swung he said he stabbed Brown. Brown then took off in a car which he crashed into a tree a short time later.
Tripp hid the knife in the basement of the home.
He will be arraigned on manslaughter charges on June 3 in Washington County Superior Courthouse.
