Newport Police have arrested a 25-year-old man believed to be connected to the copper theft in at least 16 Newport homes.
Anthony Hendricksen, a Newport resident, was arrested after an investigation begun over a month ago in April revealed that Hendrickson had traded in more than 600 pounds of folded and compressed copper downspouts to Mid-City Scrap Iron and Salvage Company in Westport.
Police observed a suspect believed to be Hendricksen walking on Eustis Ave and Old Beach road on May 20th. Later a square copper downspout was located in the area.
Police observed the area and later saw Hendricksen return for the copper.
Hendricksen was arrested and charged with 16 counts of larceny and one count of vandalism.
