Former Senate Pres. Montalbano Judgeship goes to Senate floor
The Senate Judiciary Committee confirmed the nomination of former Senate President Joseph Montalbano as a Superior court Justice. The nomination will now head to the Senate floor for a full vote on Thursday.
Montalbano was nominated for the position by Governor Lincoln Chafee. He currently serves as a District Court Magistrate.
He was the president of the Rhode Island Senate from 2004 to 2008 when he lost his re-election bid to independent Ed O'Neill.
Montalbano took some hits when he served as Senate President and was fined $12,000 for an ethic violation for failing to disclose work that he had done for West Warwick in the area of the then-proposed Harrah's Casino.
