PROVIDENCE, R.I. - RIPTA Riders will soon notice some big changes.
The agency is launching what it calls a "rapid bus" route, which will replace slower service from Cranston through Providence into Pawtucket.
The "rapid bus" route will have fewer stops.
RIPTA also has plans in the works to upgrade traffic signals and introduce a real-time bus monitoring system that will let riders track the buses on their smartphones.
"We have great buses, and we have light rail.. and we
recently were able to recruit a fortune 43 company because they said they loved
our light rail system...so i know that transportation does attract economic
development and it helps communities grow."
Real-time announcements will give riders information about bus transfers and stops.
Plans for the new rapid line bus will be revealed at year's end.
