Police are asking for the publics help in the search for a suspect after four people were shot at their home late Saturday night, including a 12-year-old girl who has died of her injuries.
Police say at 11:56 p.m. Saturday, a distressed caller phoned police and told them there was a shooting at 256 Hartford Avenue.
When police arrived, they found four people with gunshot wounds, including a 12-year-old girl. The girl, identified as Aynis Vargas, was taken to the Hasbro Children's Hospital and died of her injuries shortly thereafter.
Her cousin, 10-year-old Christopher Rojas, stopped by the makeshift memorial in honor of Vargas. Rojas was supposed to be at the party with his cousin.
"she was very nice to me and I don't want this to
happen to her. I was supposed to be at the party but my mom said no
because we were having a party at my house," explained Rojas while fighting back tears.
The other three individuals shot are identified as Vilma Tineo, 44, who has been treated and released, Elaine Devargas, 23, who is currently in good condition at the hospital, and Eugelyn Cabera-Martinez, 33, who is listed in fair condition at the hospital.
According to police, there was a small gathering at the Hartford Avenue address, when a person walked up to them and opened fire, then fled the scene. Eyewitnesses tell ABC 6 they thought the gunshots were firecrackers, because the kids had been playing with them earlier that day.
So far, police say there are no arrests but detectives are actively investigating the incident.
ABC6 will have more information about this shooting as new details are uncovered.
