The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for Rhode Island with forecasts of up to 2 inches of rain for some parts.
The watch is in effect for all of the state, except Block Island, through Friday afternoon. It also applies to portions of northern Connecticut and all of Massachusetts, except the Cape and the islands. Rain and thunderstorms and expected across southern New England Thursday afternoon and evening, continuing overnight.
The weather service says up to 2 inches of rain could fall in some areas. The heavy rains could lead to localized flash flooding especially in urban areas, on higher terrain and in places with poor drainage.
