Established in 1785, Bristol Rhode Island hosts the oldest Fourth of July celebration in the country.

It all began when Rev. Henry Wright of the First Congregational Church and a veteran of the American Revolution conducted the first celebration to mark the United State's independence.

That celebration evolved over time and by the 1800's there was a parade. Today the Bristol Fourth of July parade is a state and national icon attracting people from all over the country to the festivities.

The celebration officially began on June 14, Flag Day and the July 4 marks the peak of the celebration with the parade.
