New legislation approved by the General Assembly will further improve school safety.

The laws will more strictly regulate fire drills, requiring schools to hold one fire drill and one lock down drill at the start of the school year. A fire drill will also be held every month after, except in January where there will be a lock down drill instead.

A law requiring annual certification of the safety plans for each school and one excluding school safety plans from the Access to Public Records Act have also gone into affect this year, further increasing safety within schools.
