BARRINGTON, R.I. (AP) State health officials have recommended that three more beaches in Rhode Island be closed to swimming.
The state Department of Health said Thursday that high bacteria counts were found at Scarborough State Beach, Goddard Memorial State Park in Warwick and Peabody's Beach in Middletown.
Barrington Town Beach, which had been closed to swimming, has been reopened. But two others, Grinell's Beach and Fogland Beach in Tiverton remain closed to swimmers.
Health officials say they'll reopen the beaches when bacterial counts drop to safe levels. The state regularly monitors water quality at beaches throughout the summer months and closes beaches found to have high levels of bacteria.
