ALLENTOWN, PA – Steven Wright baffled the IronPigs for five innings as the PawSox beat Lehigh Valley 5-0 in a rain shortened contest.
Pawtucket wasted no time getting on the scoreboard Sunday evening at Coca-Cola Park. Jackie Bradley Jr. led off the game with a double, moved to third on an infield single by Alex Hassan and scored on an RBI fielder's choice by Mark Hamilton giving the PawSox an early 1-0 lead.
The score stayed 1-0 until the top of the 6th with the PawSox broke it open. They would score four times in the frame on just two hits including a Dan Butler RBI double. The other runs came across on a Heiker Meneses hit by pitch with the bases loaded, an RBI fielder's choice by Jonathan Diaz and a bases loaded walk issued to Brock Holt. In all, Pawtucket sent 10 men to the plate in the four-run 6th to make it 5-0.
PawSox starter Steven Wright continued his dominance over Lehigh Valley tossing five scoreless innings stretching his streak of scoreless frames to 17 innings over the IronPigs. The last time he allowed a run against Lehigh Valley was back on April 9th in the 3rd inning.
The knuckleballer allowed just three hits while striking out two in his five innings of work.
After the four-run 6th, heavy rain overcame Coca-Cola Park and the game was called after five and a half innings with Pawtucket winning 5-0.
The PawSox conclude their regular season schedule Monday afternoon in Lehigh Valley at 1:35 p.m. Knuckleballer Charlie Haeger (4-4, 4.63) takes the hill for Pawtucket and will be opposed by IronPigs' lefty Greg Smith (8-3, 3.16).
