Sunday evening classmates of Olivia Rotondo,20, gathered outside her former high school to remember the former cheerleader. The North Providence woman died Sunday of an apparent drug overdose while attending the Electric Zoo Music Festival in New York City's Randall Island.

Monday afternoon the candles and cheerleading bows were still present underneath a tree at Mount Saint Charles. Rotondo was a 2011 graduate. Many who attended the candlelight vigil were members of the cheer team. They made pins to remember their teammate.

Rotondo was entering her Junior year at the University of New Hampshire. The school released a statement saying:

"University of New Hampshire officials were greatly saddened to learn of the recent death of Olivia Rotondo, a junior from Rhode Island. We extend our deepest sympathies to her family and friends during this difficult time, and are focused on providing support and resources to our campus community."

The counciling center on the campus is open Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 PM.

"Everyone is just upset about the whole thing," one UNH student said.

Rotondo was at the weekend long music festival when she died. Police believe she may have overdosed on the drug MDMA, also known as Estacy, or Molly. Classmates familiar with the drug are devastated by what happened. They opened up about the drugs apparent rise in popularity.

"I was just surprised to hear that somebody, you know, must have got a bad batch, or something happened," one classmate said.

"It's getting more and more popular, I think," said another. "Especially, she was at a concert where it was sort of like trippy music and a festival, so I think people ware getting more and more hooked on it because of the effects that it gives you."

The Rotondo family is understandably asking for their privacy at this time.
