The State Fire Marshal has been called in to investigate an explosion at the Public Works Department on Saturday night.

At around 9:00 pm, an explosion went off in a garbage truck parked in the lot of the Public Works Department on Sandy Lane.

At this time, the cause is still unknown. However, the Warwick Fire Department believes that a fire inside the truck could have set off the explosion. It is possible that the truck was still loaded with trash at the end of the night, something in it caught fire, and in turn led to an explosion.

Luckily, there was nobody in the lot at the time. Three garbage trucks are completely destroyed from the blaze, and two others that were nearby are damaged. Officials say the cost of all the damage could be $1 million or more.
