New Bedford officials confirm that on Monday afternoon Carney memorial academy was placed on lockdown due to shots being fired on Middle Street, just blocks away from the school. While police secured the neighboring streets two people of interest were arrested and taken into custody for questioning. No injuries were reported, Carney was on lockdown for a total of 45-minutes.

New Bedford officials also say another shooting took place on Chancery Street prior to the Middle street shooting and they believe it could be related but again that information is also under investigation.

ABC 6 News will bring you the latest as information becomes available.
