Stephen Ardrey, 30, of Springfield, Missouri, was ordered detained and charged with sex trafficking children and transporting a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity.
Ardrey was in U.S District Court in Providence Friday after being arrested Thursday. He is charged with the disappearance of a 17-year-old Medfield girl. He and the girl were seen leaving the Medfield library together on Monday, when she was reported missing. She was found safe on Thursday walking along a Coventry road.
Authorities thank local, state and federal law enforcement agencies in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, as well as the person who spotted Ardrey and the girl on Thursday, for her safe return and Ardrey's arrest.
If convicted of his charges, Ardrey faces statutory penalties of a minimum 10 years up to life in federal prison; 5 years to lifetime supervised release following imprisonment; and a fine up to $250,000.
