WOONSOCKET, RI- All residents have been accounted for after a fire on South Main Street destroys a multi-family home. Residents are thankful that a few men ran into that building to get people out.

"My mom was in the shower so she had no idea what was going on. And the kids ran outside of the house and a man next door ran up through the back telling everyone to get out, said Scott Tucker.

Tucker was not home during the fire but is grateful that his next door neighbor, Michael Ptaszk was there.

"I figured I had a little bit of time to get in there and get people out," said Michael Ptaszk.

Ptaszak ran from his yard into a back door knowing that the flames were spreading quickly.

He said, "I just stayed in the front hallway and just banged on doors. I tried going in the first floor, and the smoke was just… I couldn't even step in. It was just black smoke billowing out."

Around noon, the four–level, multi–family residence had flames coming out of the top three floors.

"Upon arrival, there were people jumping out the side of the building," said Woonsocket Deputy Chief, Timothy Walsh.

"There was a bunch of kids in the house and everybody was just yelling for everyone trying to see if everybody was accounted for," said Jennifer Ptaszk.

Some residents inside had no idea the building was on fire. Others driving by the home also ran in to help.

Jennifer Ptaszk said, "Two of the kids that had pulled over to help out, they grabbed the little boy and jumped off the wall into my yard and there was just a little girl and I just grabbed her and took her into my yard and we brought her in the house and got her some clothes, and tried to calm them down."

Michael Ptaszk says he's no hero.

"I didn't even think about it. Just did what I could."
