A Street in downtown Newport is just reopening after a scare forced Police to evacuate the area for about an hour Tuesday afternoon.
Police say construction crews were digging sewer lines on Broadway, when they noticed cracks in the "Salvation Cafe" building. Worried that the building could be in danger of collapse they called in an engineer, who ordered the area evacuated.
During the inspection part of the road was closed and it turns out the cracks are not structural.
