A Pawtucket dentist has had his license to prescribe controlled substances suspended following accusations that he prescribed drugs including hormones and steroids.
The state Department of Health announced the action against Demetrius James Photopoulos on Thursday.
The health department alleges that Photopoulos prescribed a growth hormone for a 3-year-old child, a testosterone gel to a 22-year-old man and an anabolic steroid to a 14-year-old girl. The prescriptions were written between 2009 and 2012.
The state also says he prescribed a controlled substance to a family member, and prescribed medication for himself.
Photopoulos is entitled to challenge the accusations at a hearing.
A message was left with Photopoulos on Friday morning.
