It was a dramatic sentencing today for a man who was convicted of shooting two men outside a Providence nightclub, killing one and seriously injuring the other.

Terrel Barros of New Bedford was sentenced to two consecutive life terms at the Adult Correctional Institute for the murder of Jamal Cruz outside the Monet Lounge in August of 2012.

At the sentencing Barros claimed that he was innocent of the charges. After the proceeding ended, Barros's mother was arrested outside of court after making threats to officers. The charges are still pending.

In July, Barros was convicted of first degree murder, discharge of a firearm causing death, being in possession of a firearm as a convicted felon, possession of a firearm without a license, assault with a deadly weapon, and discharge of a firearm in a crime of violence.

As a result of the shooting and an earlier violent incident involving a 60 person melee outside the club, the Monet Lounge was ordered closed. It later reopened under a different name, the Van Gogh Lounge.
