A Cranston liquor store owner is in serious condition after he was shot in the face and leg Thursday night.

Right before 10:00 pm Thursday, Cranston Police received several calls reporting gun shots fired from inside the Classic Liquors on Plainfield Street.

Witnesses say a small, dark vehicle pulled into an alley behind the store.

The passenger got out of the car and walked into the store, and witnesses heard loud arguing and someone screaming "GUN"! , followed by two gunshots.

The suspect ran out the back of the store with his hood covering his face. Witnesses describe him as a 6 foot male with a medium build and a black hooded sweatshirt with red tee shirt pulled over it. He also had a mask and gloves.

He got back into the awaiting car and fled towards Plainfield Street. The car is described as a small dark car with round tail lights.

Cranston Police reviewing surveillance video from inside the store say it appears the suspect was carrying a shotgun and blue duffle bag and immediately confronted Elie Nehme, the store owner, who was behind the counter.

After what appears to be a struggle between the suspect and Nehme, the suspect shot Nehme in the left leg and face. Nehme, 54, was sent to Rhode Island Hospital and is in serious but stable condition.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Cranston Police at 401-942-2211.
