Providence Mayoral Academy celebrates its successful opening

The Achievement First Providence Mayoral Academy celebrated its successful opening with a gathering Friday at the new elementary school. 

The school on Hartford Avenue opened on August 19 to 180 students in kindergarten and first grade from Providence, Warwick, Cranston, and North Providence.

During Friday's ceremony, many were honored including RI Speaker of the House Gordon Fox, Providence Mayor Angel Taveras, Cranston Mayor Allan Fung, Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian, North Providence Mayor Charles Lombardi, and Cumberland Mayor Daniel McKee

Achievement First Providence Mayoral Academy Elementary is the first Achievement First school in Rhode Island. The mission of Achievement First is to close the achievement gap and deliver on the promise of equal educational opportunity for all children, regardless of race, economic status or zip code.
