Fire crews in Seekonk battled an early morning fire Tuesday. They were called to the area of 87 Central Avenue around 1:30 after a passerby noticed a large amount of smoke pouring out of the single family home.
When firefighters arrived they were met by heavy smoke and flames coming from the second floor. Part of the structure collapsed and crews were sent out of the home for their safety.
Nearly two hours after the fire broke out firefighters were still battling hotspots.
"We're at the point now that we're trying to overhaul. It's making it a little bit difficult for us because there are holes in the floor of the 2nd floor. The structural members holding the 2nd floor up have been compromised, severely," said Alan Jack, Seekonk's Fire Chief.
