The bus drivers' union in Cranston is making its case to the Cranston school committee to keep them on the job and not go with an outside company.
The school committee is considering hiring the first student busing company to replace the district's bus drivers. Union representatives argue that the potential deal is not an improvement over the service that they've provided to the city for decades.
"I think that we have a proven way of doing it and its cost effective, so I see no reason why they would even entertain changing it," said Arthur Jordan of LIU local 1322. "We asked members of the Cranston school committee for a comment on the issue... they declined."
