Saint Anne's Hospital in New Bedford broke ground Friday for its new Urgent Care Center at Riverside Landing.
The center will be open for walk-in outpatient care to treat non-life-treating injuries or illnesses when a patient's primary care doctor is not available or when ER care is not necessary.
John Jurczyk, FACHE, Chief Operating Officer at Saint Anne's, said centers like this "provide a prompt and cost-effective alternative to emergency room visits," for certain conditions. Urgent care services are covered by most health insurances.
Conditions that can be treated at an urgent care center include sore throats, simple fractures, asthma, and pneumonia – just to name a few.
The center will add not only new jobs but also additional health care services for residents.
The center is scheduled to open next fall.
