Local cities and towns will be holding ceremonies and observances this Veterans Day. Here is a list of some of the events going on.
The Park View Middle School is hosting a 5K Run/Walk at Roger Wililams Park beginning at 9 AM. Partial proceeds will go to the Wounded Warrior Project.
The parade will step off at 10 AM from academy Field at Church and Rector Streets.
The town's parade begins at 10 AM from Wilson Park in Wickford. Stops will be made for wreath-laying ceremonies at the monuments at Town Hall and Veterans Memorial Park.
The Veterans Council will conduct its annual Veterans Day Ceremony and wreath-laying at 11 at Veterans Memorial Part (adjacent to City Hall).
A memorial to fallen solider, SPC Dennis Poulin will be dedicated in a ceremony at 2 PM at the Pawtucket war Veterans Memorial (Scallop Shell) at the Armistice Blvd entrance to Slater Park. Poulin, 26, was killed in 2011 while serving in Afghanistan. His vehicle was overturned in the Konar province.
Brown University will honor service men and women during a ceremony on campus. Speakers include US Sen. Jack Reed, Brown President Christina Paxson, and current Brown student and US Navy veteran Matthew Ricci. There will be a wreath-laying ceremony at Soldiers Arch to honor those who have served. The ceremony begins at noon.
New England Patriots player Devin McCourty will take part in Operation Holiday Cheer to honor local soldiers. Members of the public are asked to bring care-package donation for the drive. They will have the opportunity to meet McCourty and pose for a photo. The event will happen at the RI National Guard Armory on Airport Road from 5-6 PM.
The Allied Veterans Council will hold a ceremony including remarks, a moment of silence, draping of the POW/MIA chair and firing squad. The service will begin at 11 AM at the Veterans Park on the Pas Pascoag Bridge way
The Norton Veterans Parade will step off at 10 AM at the Henri A. Yelle Elementary School on West Main St. From the school the parade will travel down Rte 123 to Pine Street and stop at a newly donated WWII German cannon. The Apponequet HS band will play.
